Parameter Description Hct (hematocrit) With every report RBC (red blood count)

• A vital supplement to the Hct
• Accurate measurements allow accurate calculations of MCH and MCHC, which help characterize the cause of an anemia

Hgb (Hemoglobin) With every report Reticulocytes (% and #)

• In the past, veterinarians only relied upon reticulocyte percentage, which can be difficult to interpret
• Relative numbers of reticulocytes must be corrected for the degree of change in the hematocrit to properly interpret

MCV (mean cell vloume)

• Using all of the erythrocyte indices, a veterinarian can better assess anemia status and cause
